Frequently Asked Questions
Where are your sites hosted?
Our preferred hosting partner is
Memset Ltd. Memset have two UK datacentre facilities, one in Fareham, South Hampshire, and the other in Reading, Berkshire. They guarantee that all of their UK Servers are within a maximum of twenty milliseconds of 95% of UK residences.
Through Memset, we can serve a wide range of needs, from inexpensive, dedicated Miniservers to custom
server clusters. The hosting solution we provide depends on the nature of the project.
We may host the site on one of our shared servers, on a dedicated Miniserver, or
another custom solution.
How often are the sites backed up?
The sites, including all data, are backed up daily both by Memset and by us. We also keep Subversion
repositories of our projects, which store all versions of the projects from the start.
What Content Management System (CMS) do you use?
We use our own CMS that lets you edit the site's content through an admin area.
Using our own system gives us the greatest flexibility for seamless integration
into custom projects, as well as customisation or extension of the CMS itself on a per-project basis.
What technologies do you work with?
We use open source operating systems, programming languages, and databases. Exactly which technologies we're able or willing to work with depends very much on project scope. For new custom web projects, we use Ruby exclusively at the moment, paired with either MySQL or PosgreSQL for the database.
How much do your services cost?
Our rates range from £40 per hour for plain HTML coding, to £70 per hour for server-side programming, JavaScript, or SQL. As for our custom web projects, they vary so much in scope and detail that we can't give a general estimate. We would be happy to
quote you, though.
